Set in a post-apocalyptic future where a cataclysmic war is waged daily on American soil, 'Fallout' focuses on the investigation into a failed mission by a Department of Homeland Security counter-terrorism team - the 'Wild Cards' - to stop a group of terrorists with a suitcase nuke in the ruins of Phoenix, Arizona. After the smoke clears, a tough-as-nails military investigator examines for evidence that the Wild Cards may have been betrayed by one of their own - via questioning and a brutal holographic memory extraction process - though he may have his own agenda.
What the reviewer above needs to realize is that this film wasn't made to be anything more than an educational experience for the college students who produced it and created all the visual effects. The process and the learning experience were the important part. The fact that it went on to a long and lauded festival run was icing on the cake. The team that made this was comprised entirely of undergrad students at University of Advancing Technology, where up until this point the concept of shooting a fully greenscreen movie had never been attempted. Frankly, we weren't even sure we could pull it off. Sure, the story is a hodge-podge of sci-fi tropes from other sources, but we go ahead and say as much in the closing credits. The story wasn't the point.

Whether you like the film or dislike the film is irrelevant. The students who worked on it are all now well on their way to successful careers in Hollywood and elsewhere in film and television. The experience of working on Fallout was among the formative moments on their paths to becoming professionals.

Rating this a 5/10 so as to not be accused of upvoting my own film. "Fallout" is a 16-minute short film from 5 years ago written and directed by experienced filmmaker Paul DeNigris. And it is obvious that he is not a rookie as this film has a couple solid elements from start to finish. Still I wasn't too impressed. Visually, it's an okay watch, but the story never got me really interested, let alone to the edge of my seat. The actors in here are not really famous and DeNigris may have to step things up in the future if he wants to get into feature filmmaking. But he is still fairly young, so there is hope. As for "Fallout", people who love science fiction more than I do may have a better time watching this award-winning little flick. Everybody else can skip it.
