Fun racing game. Seems it can be as casual or hardcore as you would like. Not as hardcore as the stuff the IRacing people do but you can graduate on. I got this game from a humble bundle.
Installed and worked right away with my windows 10.
Worked well with my xbox controller. I set the controller to xbox360 and then mapped the buttons the way I wanted.
The graphics are pretty and give a good sense of speed.
Seems like it could use more tracks. I would love it if there was a few oval tracks. I think even Indy Car is doing less oval tracks now a days.. F1 arcade style.
F1 2011 could had been a good game, but like usual Codemasters managed to mess up their F1 game with a number of poor design decisions.

F1 2011 has arcadey handling, cars feel weird, and overly twichy and unpredictable with default setup, using a custom setup makes cars a bit more predictable but they still feel arcadey. Setups are generic like in every CM's F1 game, once you find a setup that suits your driving style that 1 setup will most likely work on every track.
Game looks good on ultra settings and runs well on my 6GB GTX 1060 (it also ran well on ultra on my previous video card, 2GB GTX 750 ti). Game works OK with a Xbox 360 controller once you find a good controller setup.

AI is pretty bad and inconsistent, it seems they're unaware of player's car in certain situations. On every race weekend I've played so far choosing "flying lap" during qualifying results in me spawning on track behind a couple of AI cars to ruin the start of my lap, then another stupid AI car that leaves the pits the exact moment I'm starting my flying lap and blocks me on the first turn, plus a couple more AI cars that will block me during my flying lap.
Penalties are also inconsistent, it's common for the AI to hit the player and the player get the penalty, AI makes a mistake and goes off-track I get a penalty for illegal overtake. There were several occasions where I got a warning for illegal blocking as soon as the lights went off on race start, on all of those occasions I watched the replay and saw that I got a good start in all of them and easily held my position until the first turn with no illegal blocking.

F1 2011 is cursed with Games for Windows Live, arguably one of the worst plagues in gaming history. I'm running the game on a PC with Windows 10 Pro, I read guides before installing the game and after some initial hassle I got the game installed and working fine. It is possible to get the necessary files for running GFWL from alternate sources but the game can still be a pain in the♥♥♥♥♥sometimes. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries for the login at game start to work, the game can take longer than usual to start, after I quit the game it takes forever before the game to stop running and I can play something else on Steam.
Also, saves are tied to GFWL, so if something goes wrong with your connection you will be able to start the game and play it, however your save with your settings and setups won't load and you won't be able to save anything, so while it technically works offline it's pretty much a always-online type of game if you have a proper install with GFWL.

I got F1 2011 as part of a bundle, I don't recommend buying it, not even on sale.
GFWL alone is enough reason to avoid this game, but the other issues like arcadey handling and bad AI & unfair penalties are also big turn-offs. One would be better off buying something like rFactor which has all the cars & tracks of the F1 2011 season.. Solid game in the F1 series. Fun to play around with.. UNBELIEVABLE. i must've spent at least 6hours of my life in order to get this game to work (i even started experimenting with virtual machines omfg) and after all that the steam version STILL doesn't work. I had to download the pirated version of f1 2011 (which was still a pain in the♥♥♥♥♥to get it to start) and after i overcame the ocean of pop-up errors/crashes, only the pirated version finaly worked.

(tl;dr the game is very good for its time but i'd never give a positive review on a something with GAME-BREAKING bugs and features tied to a platform that is dead and not working for years -GFWL- )

edit1: i use a steam idler program to track my gametime,so don't think i got i got it to work
edit2: somehow i installed the game again a week after all the chaos of the first day and the game magically starts normally. My guess is that 10hours of playing it through razor's pirated copy ironed the last starting bugs i had. on top of that the steam version has some minor improvements. the game is good (otherwise i wouldn't be playing it for so many hours) but i wouldn't change my review to positive for a game that has game breaking bugs and is sold for money

+driving the car feels great
+excellent graphics
+everything that has to do with audio is great. they even have david's croft voice which they lip-synced on his in-game character and then they put a microphone in front of his lips. now thats funny

bugs the game still has:
-frequently reports incorrect amount of exp awarded on carrer mode
-keeps losing steering wheel as default on game exit
-for some reason it plays at around 40fps for me rather than reaching the maximum monitor Hz. i've tried vsync and some other options but nothing worked
-OH MY GOD the game sometimes doesnt save your career progress EVEN THOUGH autosave is on and i even used some manual saves to do it! Entire sessions of playing can be lost for no reason. Another game-breaking bug.......

bad game design:
-team expectations for qualify/race aren't realistic and heavily dependent upon a combination of last race's result and current standings - which is quite bad because if somehow by luck managed to score some points on the first race of the season with an under-achieving car that would raise the bar of the team expectations and you'll be losing most of the goals of the team for the next few races(this is fixed on later versions with dynamic change between the qualify and the race)
-the AI is considerably slower on some tracks (like in abu dhabi)
-the best cars are favored HEAVILY on high speed tracks (like spa) and it's almost impossible to be competitive with a low-end car even if you can manage just fine on the other tracks
-the game favours higher top speed over higher acceleration on ALL tracks, even in monaco where u'd expect the maximum downforce settings to be the best choice, it is not the case
-very high skill gaps between each of the 4 difficulty levels
-time trials/time attack/achievements/ are embeded to GFWL which is dead so that means this whole aspect of the game is now void. how they can leave a black hole in their game's programming is beyond me. Very Good Game. A nice update to F1 2010; this game introduced the Ego game engineV 1.5 which would also be used for F1 2012. There are quite a few other improvements and chnages also. The most noticeable for me is the handling model which I prefer over 2010 where cars would understeer and if they did snap oversteer there was no hope of catching them. The feel of the car is better in 2011 and it is possible to hold or correct slides. The new engine also bring graphival improvements and overall the game looks very nice running in ultra settings. In 2015 though some cut scenes seems a little dated. 2011 also bring DRS and KERS into the game; which will ensure as a driver you will be very busy at all times on any given circuit. I thoroughly enjoy this series of games; there is enough depth here and accesibilty for casuals and hardcore F1 fans alike. If you are a casual racing gamer tholugh you may prefer to look at the later releases in the series.
. DX11 is *STILL* Buggy due to a pretty similar engine. Load times on DX9 are quite long. Gameplay however is good. Much improved on 2010 in all aspects (except the bugs in the first remain, due to a 'tweaked' engine only..). F1 2011 has a good driving feeling, V8 and Michael Schumacher.
