A young Afghan boy witnesses men burying a roadside bomb outside his village in a remote part of Afghanistan. Before he can tell his parents, the same men brutally kill his mother and wound his father. When an American Special Forces team comes to the village as part of a medical clinic, the boy seeks help from the American medic. The soldier promises to help the boy's father, and his compassion makes a powerful impact on the boy. When American surveillance picks up signs of an ambush, the team abruptly leaves the village in an effort to avoid getting villagers caught in the crossfire. The boy realizes the American convoy is speeding into the path of the roadside bomb. He shortcuts through the village to stop them, cutting them off and placing himself in grave danger. Although their cultures are worlds apart, the boy and the soldier share a moment of human connection, which has the power to change the course of events for both of them.
After a simple act of kindness from an American soldier, a young Afghan boy attempts to unravel a deadly roadside bomb attack.
There are so many people who don't really know what us military people do, but this story carries some very good portrayals of character. We're not enlisted to get rich and famous, and even most officers can make a higher wage in a civilian equivalent job. In this case, I did appreciate the depth of this production and the thought behind it. I feel the characters are strong because of the reality they convey. Many movies are there to entertain us, but not always to encourage us to think and appreciate someone trying to make a difference. Without writing any giveaways or pushing opinions, I recommend it for enlightenment, for seeing different perspectives, and for a strong storyline.
My comment may result in disclosure of information in the story told by this film. This film portrays reality. The actors come from the area shown. We know people who have been to the type of area portrayed and know how people there must live with fear for their lives. This talented director spent a year in writing and production to show that an act of kindness can result in better understanding, even if the act comes from strangers who can barely communicate with those they try to help. Perhaps some reviewers do not support that idea. Everyone should see this film and reflect on the message in it. This is the first time I have ever commented on a film but this one is so important I could not stay silent.
