District B13 Full Movie Online Free
In 2010, the dangerous districts in the periphery of Paris are surrounded by walls, and the dwellers do not have school, hospital and even police in the area, which are ruled by drug lords. In the 13th District, Leito is a honest man that lives in a clean building and does not permit drug dealers nearby his neighborhood. When he destroys one million Euros in heroin of Taha Bemamud, the criminal abducts Leito's sister Lola and the corrupt police arrests Leito. Six months later, the tough and honest Capt. Damien Tomaso is assigned to find and deactivate a stolen bomb that might destroy the 13th District and the two million dwellers. Together with Leito, they have to face the gang of Taha and disclose a despicable secret behind the robbery of the bomb.
Despite boasting vastly superior budgets and subsequent production values, western cinema has never quite been able to produce action films of the same breathtaking calibre or that match the sheer spectacle of their Asian counterparts. The main difference of course lays in the human element i.e the action stars themselves and their incredible abilities. A list of a number of these amazing individuals serves swiftly to illustrate this fact: Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen, Jet Li (a superb martial artist but sadly overly reliant on wires!) and more recently the incredible Tony Jaa of Ong Bak fame. All of the above perform their own incredible stunts in addition to being true masters in their respective martial arts disciplines. Take for instance the ever popular Jackie Chan who has been wowing audiences with his seemingly insane stunts and martial arts for almost three decades ..to put it simply, there is no western equivalent of this incredible man. ..Well, in light of the film reviewed here, it seems that the rule book may be about to be tossed out of the window.
District 13 mixes excellent fight scenes (from acrobat/martial artist Cyril Raffaelli) with the spectacular French art of free running called Parkour (represented by none other than the pioneer of Parkour himself David Belle). And what an amazing coupling it proves to be! This is absolutely incredible stuff!
Some people have moaned about the lack of a decent plot in this. Well as perfunctory as it may be and whilst certainly bearing more than a passing resemblance to John Carpenter's Escape From New York, the story here is entirely acceptable when viewed as a catalyst for all the action the film comprises. And that is the main point, this is primarily an ACTION film. It seeks nothing other than to thrill the viewer with its numerous spectacular action set pieces and this it achieves overwhelmingly. In effect, the plot, what there is of it, serves primarily as the excuse for the awesome and welcomely abundant action set pieces.
Simply put, if you're at all into the works of Jackie Chan or any other Asian martial arts superstar then you will most likely love this film as much as I.
As a final note: If the Parkour in this has whetted your appetite then you might also wish to check out Yamasaki and Les Fils Du Vent (The Great Challenge), which although admittedly not on par with the film reviewed here, nonetheless contain some more jaw dropping Parkour displays. This movie shows us that not only Asia and America can make amazing action movies. If you look at how many times the actors had a real role before, you really going to appreciate what they did!
Look at some of Besson's other movies, like Taxi (1,2&3), the Transporter (1&2), and you will see that the director of this movie did a really good thing!
It's Cyrils first real movie, before this he did commercials! Crimson rivers (1&2), Taxi (1,2&3) Transporter (1&2) and Ronin are all in my collection, but Banlieue 13 is far the best of it!
Make sure you have a seat because this movie puts you're ass down for the entire 80 minutes. At the beginning of Jackass they always say "Don't try this at home" but I'm sure that there will be people try to Parkours them self! Fast, dumb fun.
The movements performed in District B13 are now known as 'Parkour'. David Belle is the father of this sort of movement which he recently invented in 2003.
