Diet is the "kind and amount of foodMeratolprescribed for a person for a special reason." When talking about weight loss, the word diet would cover everything needed for providing weight loss, including the food components, the amounts needed, and how to prepare them. There are hundreds if not thousands of different diet plans all being promoted by people trying to help you lose weight, and in most cases trying to make money off you. Many creators or suppliers of supplements will develop their own diet plan that requires the use of their supplement just as a way to sell their product. Other diets are just fad diets that have no medical backing and should not be trusted.

Three main components of a safe and effective diet are carbs, protein and fats. Your main source of energy comes from carbs, exercise is a very important aspect of staying healthy and losing weight, so keeping high energy levels is important to get the amount of exercise needed. Proteins are used to help your cells grow and repair, and fats are another source of energy. A well balanced diet will include all of these in their appropriate amounts. Drinking enough water each day is also very important to any diet. Some diets that claim to drop 10-12 pounds in a week, are based mainly on dropping water weight. These are not healthy diets, because water is very important for your metabolism and many other bodily functions.

Food you eat everyday will contain carbs, proteins and fats, but just because they do does not make them necessarily good foods for your diet. Many of these foods will also contain things that are harmful to your body and will prevent weight loss. The key is finding foods that contain just the healthy components. Vegetables, legumes, fruits and whole grains are very good sources of carbs, and they also provide fiber which is beneficial for various bodily functions, including your metabolism. Avoid other sources of carbs such as white sugar, desserts, and candy as they will lead to weight gain. You should aim to get between forty and sixty percent of your calories from carbohydrates.

Just like there are good carbs and bad carbs, the same goes for proteins. Good proteins that provide the essential amino acids comes from organic foods. Meat, fish, eggs and poultry are all good sources of "good" proteins. Processed meats should be avoided. You should aim to get between ten and thirty percent of your calories from proteins.

Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty essential acids help the immune system of your body, fight inflammations and are very beneficial to heart and brain functionality. These acids are not made by our bodies and can be obtained through cold water fish, walnuts, and other foods. You should aim to get between twenty and thirty percent of your calories from good fats.
