Great game. 4.5/5 (Note: My played hours are exaggerated in the count because Steam has bugs in hours counting. I definitely played over 150 hours.) The intricate system of stats and skills are better than most (or all) RPGs. Combat system is curious. Sadly, some of the percentages used for many of the skill checks are dumb: 25% chance of triggering disabling vomiting. Also, the leveling system gives a small random set of stat-skill-bonuses, but it's not well balanced and strongly encourages save scumming to get new choices: I found I averaged 3-4 reloads to find minimally acceptable choices after I realized how much they were going to determine death, survival, or thriving. That's dumb. The story starts out interesting and gets weirder. Lots of grinding, not in the dungeon exploration way, but in managing resources, harvesting, trying not to over harvest, etc. My main theory that I developed early and found very successful was to maximize battles, though the game pushes skills that minimize frequency of battles. Battles garner experience and goods and later characters get goods-bonuses from battle and I was several times able to avoid total hive collapse because of resources gained through fighting. Definitely get the dog (DLC). The dog makes the game better.. The dog has helped me out in the beginning game, with each tribute, and if someone gets too close to the edge. There's an action it can do to help. It's not OP but it's so appreciated. It's another level of management that keeps the cycle fresh. The dog recovers energy fast enough and doesn't starve to death (at least from what I can tell, it just looks sad) so it's never a burden. Sometimes Kari gets a debuff. Overall, it's a useful, fun addition.. Great game. 4.5/5 (Note: My played hours are exaggerated in the count because Steam has bugs in hours counting. I definitely played over 150 hours.) Definitely get the dog (DLC). The dog makes the game better.. I am finding the game more difficult at Survival level after the 1.2 Patch. Valur the Viking Corgi offsets that difficulty. His combat bonuses counter the random bonus traits enemies now get. He can be used well to reduce depression and somewhat to reduce injury. His most basic ability is finding bones, so they are no longer a finite resource. It is pretty easy to activate both his combat bonuses on consecutive days or even the same day (with upgrades and luck) but then you have to either wait for his energy to build back up to do it again (long enough for the bonuses to expire), or make use of his other abilities. He can help a lot, but like everything in the game, you have to choose the right benefit for the right time. You also have to choose when to train/upgrade him, as he requires food for both Affection, which allows training, and a specific type of food for the upgrade's tier. I too often find it a challenge to keep the humans fed early in the game, let alone find a surplus for Valur. It is an interesting additional challenge.. Thank you for The Vallhund ^^ (I'm waiting for the next DLC) By Thailand Player. I love this game and I love doggos!. An adorable dog for a small price. What better upgrade for your camp can you imagine? (But a cat maybe.)
