Chocolate - Food of the Gods, Brain Cannabinoids, and Hedonic Eating

It's not that glucose has no use at all; a small American Super Collagen Review part of the brain, about 15% needs glucose. This is a necessary fuel as well for the eyes, red blood cells and renal cortex. And those needs can easily be met by the glucose from proteins that the liver produces. In other words, sugar and carbohydrates that will be turned into sugar are not only not required, but get in the way of proper body function. So if we don't want the body to be burning glucose, what really is the preferred fuel? None other than that food that we have been told to avoid: fat. We do know the fuel that the majority of the brain cells use for functioning properly is ketones, and they are produced from fat by the liver. The highest fat percentage of any organ in the body is actually the brain, which consists of 60% fat.

Another way we may look at the role that fat plays in our diet is that it is our preferred way of storing our body's fuel. Our long-term fuel is stored in the form of fat. This includes the fats that we eat and that which is converted by the liver. When we really need energy in an emergency it releases fatty acid. It's not converted into glucose, and this should tell us that the body prefers fat instead of glucose. Is what has caused confusion among many people is just what the term fat is. It comes in many forms, from the unmistakably terrible Trans fats to omega-3 fats we find in several foods such as salmon. Saturated fats in the past have been blamed for a multitude of health problems, and that includes the link to heart disease. They are now finding that dietary saturated fats are not the problem that once was thought, but using them in the context of the low-carb diet actually makes them less a risk on the heart. What is certain is that all fats are definitely not created equal, and by eliminating all fat in our diet because some is bad is definitely a way toward poor health.

As you know, your immune system is responsible for keeping your body strong and healthy and protecting it from attacks by harmful bacteria. People who have a strong immune system remain largely healthy and are less sensitive to common health hazards like infection. Some others find that they are prone to fall sick at the slightest provocation. The structure of your immune system is partly shaped by genetic factors. But the good news is that you can strengthen your immunity from health hazards by following some simple strategies. Two basic requirement for a strong immune system is a body that has adequate rest and is nurtured by a healthy alkaline diet. Alkalinity is associated with your body's ability to take in more oxygen and oxygen is the key to immunity from health problems. It is not difficult to ensure that your body gets the needed level of alkalinity. All you need to do is to make your diet rich in alkaline content. Here are four strategies you should follow to improve your immune system. The easiest way to provide your body with alkalinity is to eat foods with rich nutrition. Taking a diet that has about 50 percent raw foods is the simplest recipe for an alkaline diet. It is well known that processed food, cooked food and baked food can trigger inflammation in some part of your body. Taking raw foods will ensure that this will not happen.

An ideal meal should have about 80 percent vegetables and 20 percent meat. If you can make it 100 percent vegetarian, it will be wonderful. Choose organic vegetables and meat not exposed to antibiotics and feel safe. Avoid processed food to the extent possible since processed food can create acidity. While alkalinity fosters immunity, acidity fosters diseases. Your body needs to remain hydrated. You should drink a lot of water. Water will not only provide your body with the needed quantity of fluids but will also flush out toxins and acids. Other liquid diets that will be good for hydrating your body without causing any ill effect are herbal tea, chamomile tea and ginger juice. Supplement your diet with Vitamins C, D and E and Calcium. These four supplements both act independently and in unison, thus offering a double benefit. Vitamin C is found in a number of substances like lemon, kale, broccoli, strawberry, papaya, pineapple etc. You can get Vitamin D from mushrooms, milk and eggs and Vitamin E from Almonds, Spinach, Broccoli. Apart from milk products, soybeans, leafy greens, fortified cereals etc. are rich in calcium.
