According to the Xuhui District People's Court, the victim, surnamed Lu, filed a lawsuit in February of 2017 after she had a dispute with Ye online. In April the court gave a ruling and ordered Ye to stop tarnishing Lu's reputation and delete related comments and articles on Weibo. Ye was also ordered to make a written apology to Lu and compensate her more than 9,600 yuan in costs.

Before that, Lu wrote an article on Weibo revealing her ex-boyfriend's affairs with other women three years ago, and some evidence suggested Ye's boyfriend was the man in question. To protect her boyfriend, Ye had a dispute with Lu online and libeled her in some comments and articles.

Ye was unsatisfied with the ruling and made an appeal to a higher court. However, her appeal was rejected and the ruling took effect on August 1 last year.

Since Ye refused to obey the ruling, Lu applied to the court for a compulsory execution in September. After the court accepted her application, it sent several notifications and documents to Ye's addresses but received no response. On September 19, the court issued an order to restrict her from high consumption.

Later, judges sent her a message and asked her to go to the court but she never showed up. The court had to add her to a blacklist in December and took measures to restrict her from going abroad.

Ye was stopped at Beijing Capital International Airport on February 24 when she tried to take a flight overseas. The court was soon informed and contacted her. Ye deleted her comments and articles at the airport and promised to obey the ruling. She sent the court a draft of her apology and it was accepted by Lu. Ye handed the written apology to Lu's lawyer.
