Gay straight student alliance handbook

(GLSTN) began as a volunteer group of 70 gay and lesbian educators. At that time, there were two Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) in the nation, only one state with policy in place to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) students, and a general lack of awareness of the needs of GLBT students. The Hayes High School Gay-Straight Alliance exists to create a safe school environment for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) and ally students; to end homophobia and increase knowledge about sexual orientation; and to provide a safe and supportive environment in which to discuss personal experiences and social issues.
