I wanted to be an accountant when I  Raikov Effect Review  went to college so majored in accounting and economics. I managed to get a job out of college in public accounting, but lost the job in one year in a seasonal layoff. I needed a job quick because I had a wife and daughter to support. After a month or so I was still unemployed as no accounting firms were hiring in the summer and it was bleak. Then I got a call from a headhunter to work for a bank. I had never even thought about banking and had no interest in it, but suddenly it seemed like a good idea. I was determined not to get fired again so focused on doing everything i could do in my new job to make a difference and was successful at it.

I passed the CPA exam while working for the bank and went back to public accounting, my first choice. I was successful there, but returned to banking because I had discovered I really liked it. The other thing I discovered is that when i moved into commercial lending that I had a credential none of them had, a CPA certificate. That credential not only distinguished me from my peers it also provided a backup career if I should need one. I stayed in banking for many years eventually rising to president of a subsidiary before going out on my own consulting business. Then the CPA certificate became valuable again.

The main thing I learned is that work is called work because that is what it is, work! It is what we do to make a living. I had a wife and daughter to support and that was my main goal. I didn't have the luxury of trying to "find myself" and had to do what was necessary to survive. I had to take a job I wasn't interested in just because I needed the income. In the process I learned that my job wasn't about self fulfillment for me, but for serving an employer and organization. That attitude made me successful. And by being successful I could get more opportunities that interested me more with my track record.

I still have some things that I really love to do but probably cannot make a living doing them. I can do them as a hobby though, and be happy knowing that I can also provide for my family. That is the most important to me, not self fulfillmentThis is not to say that we shouldn't find our dream work; many do and are very happy and make a living at it. But many also avoid work they don't like and suffer the consequences of not working.
