Our bodies store this fat because they’re evolutionary designed to think that we’re starving when we’re not getting enough nutrients, and thus, it stores what nutrients we do have as an emergency supply to be used later. This ultimately leads you to gain weight more easily and store more fat as the result of your diet. Why does this happen? It has to do with your thyroid, explains Jack. Your thyroid is what regulates your metabolism, and when you eat what’s normally considered “health foods” it forces your thyroid to slow down your metabolism. It also regulates the health of your cells, as well as having a part to play in your body temperature.
